Life Events & Why It’s Time To Digitize Written by: Cora Foley
Many people ask themselves, is it really necessary to digitize my photos and home videos now? The short answer is yes! If you took the time to capture all those special moments and held on to them all these years then they must be very important to you. Every major life event is a reminder to finally convert your priceless family memorabilia to digital files so that they are preserved and can be passed down for generations to come.
While there are a number of reasons outside of life events to go digital, here are a few very personal reasons why it is the time to either scan your photos yourself or to have a photo scanning company do it for you.
Birth
Is there a baby on your horizon? Have you recently gained a child, grandchild, niece or nephew? If your answer is yes – this is the perfect time to digitize your family’s legacy. A new addition to the family, means there is someone else to carry on the memory of your family and its history. So why not ensure they have something to share?
Death
A less pleasant reason to digitize your slides and negatives today is death. Unfortunately you never know when you will lose a loved one. Every person holds memories near and dear to their heart and we want to make sure those memories don’t disappear when they pass on.
Digitizing your family history enables you to easily tag photos and videos with a variety of information, ensuring that even the littlest details of a memory are never lost. In the event of a death, having all of these images already digitized enables you to create a memorial of the person you love more easily. You can make a tribute slideshow, a large collage, or you can simply send your favorite photos to friends and family. You no longer have to worry about sorting through hundreds or thousands of dusty slides, negatives and photos quickly.
Do you have siblings, cousins, aunts & uncles who value the memory of your loved one who has passed on? Photo digitizing service your photos and videos ensures you won’t have to fight with your relatives over who gets to keep what memories. Every single person who wants to pass on this legacy can because of the simplicity of duplicating and sharing digital files!
Divorce
In a highly emotional situation like divorce, you probably won’t want to think about who gets your family memories. Who will take your photo albums containing the pictures of your son’s first steps? Who will get the video tape of your daughter’s first recital? No one plans on getting a divorce, but sometimes this is the outcome and it is always best to be prepared. There are so many positive reasons why you want to have a digital copy of all of your memories. Make sure you are also prepared in the event something not so great, like divorce, happens. Give yourself one less thing to think about.
Holidays
The holidays are a perfect time to get all of your favorite audio & video tapes converted along with your photographs and reel film by adopting a proper video transfer service. You may be thinking, why are the holidays the perfect time? Well going digital is something you will have to do eventually, but if you do it during the holidays your digital files can double as an awesome & sentimental gift! There is no better way to show someone you love them than by preserving and sharing all of your favorite memories together. This is a one stop shop that provides a gift everyone will love. We can make a DVD or flash-drive copy for each person on your list. As an added bonus this gift guarantees there won’t be any re-gifting!
Moving
I don’t think anyone ever realizes how much stuff they have until it is time to pack their life into boxes and move it. Photo albums are bulky and rarely fit together neatly and efficiently into boxes. Slides, negatives & roll film are all extremely delicate. VHS tapes are large and unforgiving. And loose photographs add up quickly. If you digitize all of these, you can turn every single one of these items in a digital file. This means they will take up very little physical space or none depending on how you chose to receive your new files. Save yourself the hassle of having to pack, move and unpack (possibly more than once) all of these by digitizing them!
Marriage
Getting married tends to mean a few things – you’re combing families, eventually moving into a shared space if you haven’t already done so, and you’re going to make some new memories. Combining of families means you have twice as many memories to store! You and your spouse both had childhoods and family histories from before you were born. If you are fortunate enough to have photos and videos of that history, then you need to be able to store all of it. Now that you’re married and living together you have to fit twice as much stuff into your new space. You can save yourselves plenty of space by digitizing all of your old albums, slides, negatives and film. The more space you save, the more room for activities you have!
All of these life events are great reasons to digitize your family’s history. Once you’ve digitized your memories you can either continue to store the originals or you can get rid of them. If you chose to store the originals, you can put them in boxes in the far corner of your attic or garage without worry or you can condense photo albums into stacks of loose photos to save space. If you are 100% comfortable with your digital files and have them backed-up, you can get rid of them all together!
