Once your photo collection is received at our secure scanning facility in NJ, it is labeled and logged into our order tracking system. Your project is then assigned to one of our experienced scanning technicians who will treat your keepsakes with the upmost care, and determine the best scanner(s) to use for your photos, albums or scrapbooks. All photos are scanned by hand using state-of-the-art imaging equipment to ensure the highest quality. Pictures are scanned in order; digital folders are created and named by the label on each bundle, batch or album.
After scanning, your newly created image files are cropped, rotated, color corrected and enhanced to make them look their absolute best. Our quality control team reviews each scanned photo and flags poor quality images for re-scanning as necessary. Finally, the enhanced images are placed onto your deliverable of choice (data disc, flash-drive, or online download).
Photo resolution is measured in Dots Per Inch (DPI) and refers to the amount of information or pixels a digital photo contains. The higher the resolution a picture is scanned at, the more detail is captured and the more flexibility you will have to enlarge and edit the pictures down the road.
Depending on what you plan to do with your digital photos will determine the best resolution for you to have them scanned at. The difference in resolution won’t be very noticeable when viewed on your iPhone or laptop. However, if you zoom in for editing, project onto a screen or reprint the images larger than the original size the differences will become apparent.
