Our Betacam Transfer Process
We convert Betacam SP to digital, as well as Betacam SX and Digibeta, at our secure production facility in Lodi, NJ. Your Betacam tapes can be shipped or dropped off at our office, located use outside of New York City. Our video technicians use professional playback equipment with IEEE 1394 or SDI connections, which allows for a direct digital capture in order to maximize quality. Once each tape is captured in its entirety, black space is removed from the beginning and end of each clip, and the files are named according to the tape labels. The files are then converted to MP4, MOV, or Apple ProRes format according to your needs.
Your newly digitized footage is reviewed for quality assurance and saved to a flash drive, external hard drive or burned to DVD. Your once forgotten footage will become modernized and ready to enjoy, share, archive or edit as needed for personal or professional use. Our pricing is based on a per tape basis with discounts for quantity. Whether you have a handful of Betacam tapes in your personal collection or work for a company with hundreds or even thousands, we can turnaround your order in a timely fashion at the highest quality.
Betacam Video Quality and Resolution
While the Betamax format lost out to VHS in the consumer market, Sony’s Betacam was very successful on the commercial side in the 1980s. Shortly after Betacam SP was introduced it became the industry standard for most television stations and high-end video production companies until the late ’90s. Betacam SP offered better picture quality and longer recording times.
Digital Betacam or DigiBeta came out in 1993, superseding previous versions and offering superior performance over both DVCAM and DVCPRO tapes. Betacam SX was introduced in 1996 as a digital version of Betacam SP and was positioned as a less expensive alternative to Digibeta.
Regardless of the format you have, we have the experience and equipment to transfer broadcast tapes to digital with the highest picture and sound quality. Below is a list of the tape formats we transfer:
NTSC & PAL Formats – Betacam, Betacam SP, Betacam SX, DigiBeta, HDV, DVCAM, HDCAM, DVCPRO25/50/100, MiniDV, VHS, VHS-C and Hi8 tapes
NTSC Only (no PAL) – 3/4″ U-Matic Tapes, Open Reel 1/2″ and 1″ Tapes.
